Hi! I’m Lisa, Midwest Garden Gal (MGG).

Midwest Garden Gal breaks down barriers and fears around gardening so everyone can find success in their own spaces. I believe gardening is a grand experiment that should be filled with joy, fun and victories! I use a down to earth approach (no intimidating Latin words here!) to share research-based garden education that leads to early wins, quick successes, and long-term enjoyment in your home garden.

I credit my Mom, Linda, and my grandparents, Howard and Janet, with sowing the seeds of passion for GIY (Grow It Yourself). Their early teachings continued to grow into an ever expanding love of the soil.

I’ve spent years learning and growing and making all kinds of mistakes along the way. Through trial and error, my passion for all things green blossomed and soon I was sharing my learnings with a growing number of family and friends.

Since 2016, I’ve taken my passion further as Midwest Garden Gal, now helping gardeners across the world find success in gardens from just a few pots on a patio to a multiple bed annual, perennial and veggie paradise! My classes, writings and consults are all about fun and learning in an easy to absorb format. I share practical best practices that I’ve learned first hand, studied, applied and adapted for years. My vast experience allows me to tailor my teachings to every level of gardener.

In my garden

My private home garden began when I purchased my home in 2005. Starting from near zero, today’s gardens include a custom designed garden shed complete with front porch, a hidden away back patio tucked into a secluded corner, expansive borders with a mix of perennials and annuals, natives and non-natives, along with 9 raised beds, vertical gardening elements and numerous containers, most of which are vintage auction finds or heritage family connections. Today’s garden demonstrates a growing interest in pollinator-supporting natives with the addition of dedicated pollinator and native gardens in recent years.
